This is a co-design project with Louisa Baillie from the Otago University School of Biomedical Sciences, designing an interactive product of the gut wall for Health Science students.
Students, even with a range of learning modalities including photographs, diagrams, drawings and digital animation, struggle to visualise and understand the three-dimensional aspect of the small intestine gut wall, and how it can be viewed from multiple perspectives. Evidence shows that three-dimensional models deepen student’s understanding of complex anatomy.
This prototype design will be validated through user testing in 2022, when it will be accessed by 4,000 Health Science students at the University of Otago. If results validate its effectiveness as a learning resource, it is intended to develop the design for commercial production.
